Bill Cunningham's NYC

Anyone who loves Manhattan as passionately as I do is a default favorite of mine. And to enjoy this beloved city through a new pair of eyes is relishing it in a new light. Bill Cunnigham fits that bill(pun unintended) perfectly! The love he has for the city and the overview on fashion evolution in the city is contagious. He currently works as a New York Times Fashion photographer and has a photographic series documenting the fashion scene on the streets of Manhattan here, evolving with the changing seasons, explaining what caught his attention or what current trend he sees in the city. What makes him iconic is the fact that he has been at it for the past 50 years or so. His favorite spot in the city is standing at the corner of 5th Ave and 57th street, by the Louis Vuitton flagship store and photographing unsuspecting city dwellers, dressed immaculate or bohemian or anything in between that makes her/him stand out in a city where everyone seems to have their own signature style. What intrigues me the most is his fascination for style in all forms, the person wearing it only adding another element to the ensemble and not vice versa.

Sitting here in California and yearning to get a glimpse of New York City in all of its grandeur has become a routine now... the quickest fix to this feeling, I have realized, is to watch what Bill Cunningham's current perspective on the style in the city is. I get myself a cup of tea/coffee and get glued to the screen listening to the unique narrative he has on the style evolving in the city. I learnt about the best places to hang around in the city through his features and would go exploring when we lived there. Understandably he also gets invited to the most popular fashion events around the world and offers a glimpse through his lens.

Thats me from a few years ago, posing and hoping to catch myself on one of his videos! A girl can dream!!
