My introduction to yoga was really by chance. I was visiting India after I had my first son, he was 6 months then and I was looking for ways to lose that pesky postpartum weight ... fast. My cousin was attending a yoga class and asked if I would like to join her. So I just tagged along to see what all the hype about yoga was. I got lucky with a brilliant instructor. The relaxation I felt by stretching my body while concentrating on my breath was phenomenal, I was hooked. I learnt how to meditate using the breathing exercises. I continued practicing yoga after coming back to the States taking classes at the local YMCA. I can't stress enough what a difference a good instructor can make, someone who tells you when to breath in and breath out, where to apply pressure when you are stretching, how to let go of stress and relax.

I also went on to practice prenatal yoga when we were expecting our second son on my wonderful OBGYN's advice. I'm not sure how helpful yoga is to actually lose weight but I continued practicing for that inner connection and calm you experience when mind, body and soul are one. I am still a beginner at it and it is very inspiring to see my yoga gurus' mastery over the art.
