We as a couple have taken up every opportunity to pack our bags and get away from routine life. Its something we have been doing right from the beginning of our marriage and we always look back fondly at all the adventures we had along the way. But there are always a few places you crave to go back and relive those experiences all over again and Serai is most definitely one of them.
It all started back in Jan 2010 when we were planning on going on a vacation when on a vacation...let me explain, we were visiting India and we wanted to get away for a couple of days. Karnataka seemed like a good option as it is the closest from where we live and we had never really explored much of that state. So the agenda was to fly to Bangalore from where we rented a chauffeur driven car and head out to Badra Wildlife Sanctuary for two days and then go to Chikmagalur to stay at the coffee estate that is owned by Cafe Coffee day. We had no clue what we were in for!
The whole sensorial experience starts from the moment you step your feet on the property. We were welcomed by the most refreshing cold coffee drink I had to this day. The lobby is a wide open, airy space with a common truss ceiling and the decor was traditional with hints of modern.
As we were escorted to our villa we passed the infinity pool and the dinning area. The palm trees along the way added a nice touch making the place feel like an urban oasis.
Our villa was a two level guesthouse with the bedroom on the entry level and a lounging area with a private swimming pool on the lower level.
The lounge on the lower level had an entertainment center and an other half bath which was also well designed with bright light streaming in from the huge window overlooking a small garden.
The swimming pool was surrounded by a lawn and garden and had a very cozy atmosphere to it.
A special shout out to the staff for being very welcoming and accommodating. Our every need was taken care of and it was a luxury experience all along the way. As with most locations in India this place was very inviting to kids and my son had an awesome time exploring.
The pricing was a little steep but I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a honeymoon/anniversary getaway in India.

There is a library adjoining the lobby with floor to ceiling glass windows to aid the magnificent views of the estate. I could sit in this room for hours reading a book and sipping on more of that cold coffee!

From our bedroom we enjoyed a pleasant view of the orchard that was behind the property.
The bathroom was adjoining the bedroom and had an open feel with the floor to ceiling bay windows but at the same time very private with the help of the tall walls surrounding the villa. It had his and her showers, sinks and a tub for soaking in, making the whole place have a spa feel. There was an outdoor shower too.
The swimming pool was surrounded by a lawn and garden and had a very cozy atmosphere to it.
They severed breakfast, lunch, dinner buffets in the dinning hall which had a restaurant atmosphere. I have to mention the food here was especially tasty, unlike the buffet lunches we are used to here in the USA. Everything was freshly made and the menu ranged from North Indian to South Indian to Italian and much more.
We took tours in golf carts with a guide showing us around the property. They have coffee plantation, orchards and spices growing on the estate. A walk down the thickly vegetated path was a refreshing and rejuvenating experience. The picture below shows fresh pepper corn being dried in the sun.
